With Halloween fast approaching, we thought we'd take a shot at naming the top 5 scariest Chinese movies of all time. After discussing with both our teachers and students, here's a general list that we came up with for you to watch this coming Halloween. NUMBER 5 - The Eye I, II, III - 見鬼
A 20-year-old blind Hong Kong classical violinist Mun undergoes an eye cornea transplant. Having a pair of new eyes, she is glad to have her sense of sight restored but she has also discovered that she sees mysterious figures wherever she goes.
NUMBER 4 - Mr Vampire I, II, III - 僵尸先生
Mr. Vampire is a series of comedy horror films that depicts a Taoist priest and his inept students who are able to perform magic that maintains control over spirits and vampire.
NUMBER 3 - The Happy Ghost I, II - 開心鬼
The Happy Ghost is a comedy film that is loved by people of all ages. The film depicts a college girl who brought home an ancient rope she used to keep her torn backpack in place. However, she does not know that the piece of rope was used by a failed scholar to hang himself in the Qing dynasty. The scholar's ghost befriended with the college girl and secretly help her and her friends to overcome academic and personal challenges.
NUMBER 2 - Liao Zhai - 聊齋 - TV Series
Liao Zhai Zhi Yi, is a Chinese classic that comprises of a collection of nearly five hundred mostly supernatural tales published during the early Qing Dynasty.
NUMBER 1 - A Chinese Ghost Story (I - III) - 倩女幽魂 (I - III)
A Chinese Ghost Story is a series of romantic horror comedy. The plot is loosely based on Liao Zhai Zhi Yi written in the Qing Dynasty. The films were popular not only in Hong Kong but in S.E Asia, Japan and Korea.
